The Cabinet has granted approval to establish a Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism in Sri Lanka.
At the invitation of the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, the Minister of Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reform of Sri Lanka, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry had visited South Africa.
He said they conducted a preliminary study on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and discussions were held with the President of South Africa, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and several heads in South Africa.
Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the joint proposal presented by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to establish the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism in Sri Lanka.
