STC attends to 10,000 cases of hazardous trees

The State Timber Corporation (STC) said it has attended to around 10,000 cases of hazardous trees reported this year.

The STC said its primary duties as supplying railway sleepers, required by the Department of the Railways, electricity poles to the Ceylon Electricity Board, elephant fence posts to the Department of Wildlife Conservation, offering timber orders requited by the public and among other responsibilities including carrying out boron treatment.

Meanwhile, to promote reforestation the STC has distributed around 13,000 forest saplings for free state run nurseries in various environmental programmes so far in 2025.

The estimated revenue for the year 2026 is Rs. 6,200 million and an amount of Rs. 1425 million has been provided as the anticipated capital expenditure of the corporation.
