The Sri Lankan Navy had sized four Indian fishing trawlers along with 22 Indian fishermen who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters yesterday.
The fisherman were apprehended during a special operation carried out by the Navy to chase away Indian fisherman who breached the Sri Lankan waters North West of Delft Island Jaffna.
The northern naval command deployed Fast Attack craft of the 04th Fast Attack Flotilla and a Craft of Sri Lanka Coast Guard to chase away a set of Indian poaching trawlers after spotting them engaging in fishing activities within Sri Lankan waters.
Even though other fishing trawlers left the area while navy pursued, four Indian fishing vessels remained. Therefore the navy seized the trawlers along with 22 Indian fishermen and brought them Kankesanthurai harbour and they will be handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for onward legal proceedings.
