A team of Police and soldiers have been deployed to rescue 22 hikers stranded on the Narangala mountain in in Hali Ela following heavy rains in the area, the Disaster Management Centre said.
The persons were stranded after strong winds and heavy rains prevented them reaching a safer area.
They are residents of Negombo.
Their tents had been blown off and they have been exposed to heavy rains and the cold weather conditions were affecting them, OIC of the Kandedara Police station Geeth Ratnayake said.
He said they have been able to maintain communications through their mobile phones so far.
