Two custodians of the Kataragama Maha Devalaya accused of stealing a gold plate have been prohibited from entering the premises.
Accordingly the Chief custodian of Kataragama Maha Devalaya Somapala Ratnayake and Saman Priyantha, the other custodian in charge of the Maha Devalaya, have been prohibited from accessing the Devalaya’s premises.
They have been barred from participating in Devalaya-related activities, either directly or indirectly, by Basnayake Nilame Dishan Gunasekara, under the directive of K.G. Siribaddana, Director General of Buddhist Affairs.
They were accused of stealing a gold plate worth Rs. 3.8 million that was offered by a devotee to the Devalaya to invoke god's blessing for her son's illness.
