Two held for kidnapping 14 year old girl

Two men, who kidnapped a 14 year old girl in Lunugala, were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF).

The girl has been admitted to the Lunugala hospital where she is undergoing an examination and treatment, Police said.

Among the two men arrested, one was her 18-year-old partner while the other was a 53-year-old man.

The 53 year old suspect arrested had been living in the house of the grand mother of the child for 17 years and apparently taken care of her, whenever her father had beaten her

On August 3, the man had taken her for a walk and since they had not arrived home, the villagers had launched a search mission. Unsuccessful, they had informed the Lunugala Police, who led a combined mission with the STF to find them, on August 11.

The search was led by Special Task Force Passara Camp Sub-Inspector, S.C.J. Mr. Samaraweera with the Lunugala Police.

The girl and the two men were found under two trees having lived in a cave for eight days in Udakiruwa Reserve Area.

The two men were handed over to the Lunugala Police and were produced to the Magistrate Court on August 12.
