Two more university students involved in assaulting former Vice Chancellor of Peradeniya University Prof. Athula Senaratne and his son have been arrested, police said.
This increases the total number of students arrested to 12.
Meanwhile teachers in Peradeniya University’s arts faculty have decided to stay away from lectures till December 18 as a move to show displeasure over the students' behaviour and administration’s failure to control the situation.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday ordered all relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the assault on the former Vice Chancellor and take necessary action.
Prof. Senaratne was admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital and his son to the Kandy General Hospital on December 10 after a large crowd of students attacked his official residence and assaulted the duo after VC’s son’s car hit a student’s motorcycle.
