The police have warned the public that more crimes could occur while people are resuming their day-to-day activities.
The Police Media Spokesman, SSP Nihal Thalduwa told Times Online that as the ones who engaged in crime were unable to engage in theft and other crimes due to lockdowns imposed during the past two years, they have become more active since.
He said that various scams using cyber platforms to scam and intimidate people and earn money have also increased.
Police also reported two separate theft related murders today where a elderly woman and a man were killed at Seeduwa and Malabe police areas.
Seeduwa police said that they are conducting investigations over a complaint made murder incident occurred today early hours.
They said that the a 73-year-old woman who is residing in house at Kumaratunaga Mawatha, Mukalangamuwa, Seeduwa was robbed and murdered. The robbers have taken the gold jewelry belonged to the deceased.
They said that the magistrate inquiry had been conducted over the deceased and the body was placed at Negombo hospital Mortuary.
In a separate incident an 80-year-old man was killed at his residence by two persons. Two suspects had tied the wife of the deceased and murdered her husband.
They said that a magisterial inquiry had been conducted and the body of the deceased had been sent to the Colombo National hospital mortuary to conduct a post mortem inquiry.
Malabe police said that they are conducting investigations to arrest the two suspects involved in the incident.
