Police shot dead two suspects arrested over a murder in Kotahena when they reportedly tried to grab a weapon of a policeman and escape.
One policeman was also injured in the shootout.
Police claimed the two suspects had been taken to show the location of a weapon hidden by them.
Earlier the police had given chase and arrested the two suspects who were escaping after shooting a youth in Kotahena. Police recovered the weapon used for the shooting.
The two suspects involved in the Kotahena shooting were killed by the Police in the Crow Island area of Mattakkuliya.
The gunman involved in the Kotahena shooting was a former Army soldier.
The two suspects were from Piliyandala and Modara.
