The UK variant is responsible for the surge in COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka and also related-deaths, health sector officials said at a media briefling held at the Sri Lanka Medical Association in Colombo on Wednesday.
The variant was discovered in Colombo, Borelesgamuwa and Kurunegala based on 43 samples that were examined and determined on Wednesday morning. (KH)
