The United Kingdom welcomed the release on bail of Attorney-at-Law Hejaaz Hizbullah, Ahnaf, and other detainees held under the PTA in recent months.
“The UK will continue to raise concerns of those held under the PTA - including those held in pre-trial detention for lengthy periods - and uphold their right to a fair trial,” the UK High Commission tweeted.
Hizbullah was released after being produced before Puttalam High Court today. High Court Judge of Chilaw Kumari Abeyratne ordered to release him on a cash bail of Rs 100,000 and two sureties Rs.500,000 each.
Earlier he was granted bail by the Appeals Court after accepting a motion filed on behalf of him seeking his release.
He was also ordered to report to the SSP of Puttalam Police every 2nd and 4th Sunday between 9.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m.
Hizbullah was arrested on April 14, 2020 under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) over Easter Sunday bombings.
