The Ambassador of the United States of America to Sri Lanka Julie Chung called on President RanilWickremesinghe.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Secretariat, today (27).
After offering her congratulations to the President, the Ambassador engaged in a friendly conversation with him, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.
During the meeting, it was discussed advancing the existing relations between Sri Lanka and the United States through a strong approach and the Ambassador assured that she would provide support for the future initiatives of the new government, it added.
Taking to Twitter on her meeting with the President, Ambassador Chung said that President Wickremesinghe "takes office at a time when Sri Lanka stands at a crossroads. We discussed how it arrived at this point of economic & political crisis, and how we can work together to navigate toward a brighter future for all."
"Our countries and our people have been friends and partners for more than 70 years, relationships that will flourish in a Sri Lanka that embraces good governance, respects human rights, and listens to the aspirations of its people," she further said.
