Alleged underworld figure "Manna Ramesh," who had been arrested in Dubai, was brought back to the country this morning (7), police said.
The plane carrying the suspect landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport today. He was escorted by a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who had been dispatched to Dubai to bring him back to the country. The team led by a Sub-Inspector, was dispatched on the orders of Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, Police Headquarters stated.The operation to bring the suspect back to Sri Lanka was led by the DIG in charge of the CID Rohan Premaratne.
"Manna Ramesh" is wanted over a host of crimes, including multiple murders. He was arrested about two months ago by Dubai Police while he was traveling in a car with his wife and two children.
Police said that the alleged underworld figure was one of 43 Sri Lankans who have Interpol Red Notices issued for their arrest.
Public Security Minister Tiran Alles had spoken with his counterpart in Dubai by telephone to secure the suspect's return to Sri Lanka, police further said.
