An unidentified body was found in the forest area near Talaimannar road, Mannar adjacent to the railway track, police said today.
Soon after locals informed the police, the forensic unit of Mannar police arrived at the scene to take steps to identify the body. The body is yet to be identified.
A Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) attached to Mannar hospital and police forensic team visited the scene today for further probe. A pair of slippers was also found near the body.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual could have died two weeks ago as wild animals damaged the body. (Pix by N.Lohathayalan)
