Trade Unions are demanding that the Government provides an interim solution to resolve the issue over high taxes.
Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) Dr Haritha Aluthge said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have told them that though the IMF could consider any relief only during the next review the Government could make its own adjustment.
“We are demanding that the Government provides us with an interim solution until the next review comes”, Dr Aluthge told the media.
Several other unions too have taken the same position claiming that they were not in a position to wait for next five to six months until the IMF review is made.
The Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) has already decided to continue with their strike action.
In a related development the trade unions belonging to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) have commenced a Sathayagraha campaign against what they call a privatization plan of the CPC.
