In a fresh move to improve urban forests in Colombo an area around the Thotalanga area has been selected.
The project was launched today near the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha bus stand in, Thotalaga.
A land belonging to the Colombo Municipal Council has been developed into a protected urban forest through the planting of trees.
A special feature of this initiative is that students of Sri Sanghabodhi Maha Vidyalaya,
Madampitiya have been entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding and nurturing these
ecologically valuable plants.
This project is being implemented with the participation of both the public and private sectors,
including the Road Development Authority, the Urban Development Authority and the Colombo
Municipal Council, under the guidance of the Presidential Secretariat.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
