The programme to vaccinate all school teachers will commence on Monday, July 12, Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris stated.
All 10, 155 school teachers, as well as principals and non-academic staff members of all schools will be vaccinated during this programme, which is due to be completed in one week, the minister told a media briefing today.
He said teachers will be given priority in the vaccination programme and added the vaccine is being administered to teachers with the aim of reopening schools as soon as possible.
The government was also hoping to reopen all schools with less than 100 students, government assisted schools and pirivenas as a first step in reopening schools.
Prof. Peiris stressed that the government could not keep schools closed indefinitely and said speedy conclusion of the vaccination programme will enable them to reopen schools quickly.
