Cabinet has approved a proposal made by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga to extend the validity period of visas for Russian and Ukrainian nationals in Sri Lanka by two months without levying any fees.
There are currently 11, 463 Russian and 3993 Ukrainian tourists in Sri Lanka. They are facing difficulties returning home due to the conflict that has arisen between the two countries, the Government Information Department said.
The proposal to extend the validity of their visas was made after taking this situation into account, the Information Department added.
