The voter turnout at the Local Government elections has exceeded 60 per cent, according to updated figures received at the respective District Secretary offices.
The latest updates showed that several districts including Nuwara Eliya, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Badulla, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Kalutara, Galle, Vavuniya, Digamadulla and Trincomalee were among the districts that recorded a 60 per cent turnout .
The Colombo Municipal council area turnout was over 50 per cent.
Mannar was among the districts that received a high turnout over 70 per cent.
The polling was concluded without any major incidents at polling booths, though there were a string of complaints of incidents that took place outside the booths.
The most common complaint was canvassing near polling booths and dropping of notifications of the party symbol near the booths.
Polls that opened at 7.00 am closed at 4.00pm while counting has already commenced.
