Wasana Maithree Herath of the Uva Wellassa University has become the country's youngest Professor in Mass Communications.
Prof. Herath is currently attached to the university's Faculty of Management Sciences.
She is a past pupil of Badulla Visaka Balika Vidyalaya, Badulla Madya Maha Vidyalaya and Bandarawela Kuda Kusum Balika Vidyalaya.
She graduated with First Class Honours in her Bachelor of Arts (Special) Degree in Mass Communications from the University of Kelaniya before going on to work as a Temporary Assistant Lecturer at the same university. She also worked as a lecturer at the Rajarata University.
She joined the Uva Wellassa University in 2006 and has been with the university since. She obtained her PhD in Communication Skills in 2014.
Prof. Herath has authored numerous books on mass communication, communication sciences, education and psychology. She has also contributed to several international research journals during the course of her academic career.
