Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara has ordered the Inspector General of Police to immediately conduct an inquiry into the incident where newspaper editors and journalists were questioned by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department over reports on the garlic scam.
The Ministry said the Minister has also ordered the IGP to take over the investigation into the garlic scam from the Peliyagoda Special Investigation Unit to the CID and conduct an in-depth investigation.
