The Department of Meteorology says that the current showery and windy conditions would persist as Southwest monsoon conditions are progressively forming over the island.
Occasional showers or thundershowers are predicted for Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Southern and Northern provinces.
Some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, are expected to see extremely heavy rains of up to 150 mm.
Several areas of the Northwestern province, as well as in the districts of Mannar, Galle, and Matara will have heavy downpours over 100 mm.
High winds of 40-50 KMPH are foreseen in Southern province and western slopes of central hills. Fairly high winds of 30-40 KMPH are expected at times in certain places of the island.
Most of the island will see cloudy skies today and there will be thunderstorms or showers in a few other locations on the island, the Met. Department further noted.
