The National People’s Power (NPP) today directed an Urban Council member to tender her resignation after her husband and son were arrested on allegations of possessing narcotics.
Accordingly, the member of the Peliyagoda Urban Council, Disna Niranjala Kumari, has resigned from her membership in the Council.
Party sources said that they had taken a serious note on the incident as the detections have come at a time when the government has launched an anti-drug campaign.
The Council member’s husband and another person arrested with drugs from a hotel in Eppawala, Anuradhapura were produced at the Thambuttegama Magistrate courts today and order was given to detain them until November 12 and question them.
The residence of the Council member in Kribathgoda too was searched by the Police.
