Wet weather to intensify today

The Department of Meteorology predicts that present wet weather over the island will intensify today (November 3).

Most areas in the country will experience showers or thundershowers after 1:00 pm today, according to the Met. Department.

Heavy downpours above 100mm are due at a few places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-central Provinces along with Puttalam and Mannar Districts. Moderately heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm is possible elsewhere. 

Showers are most likely in Eastern Province also in Jaffna and Mullaitivu Districts during the morning hours.Certain areas in Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces will meet misty mornings.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are occasionally on the cards in the sea areas off shores extending from Trincomalee to Kakesanthurai. Several places in the sea areas around the island will witness showers or thundershowers particularly during the day or night. Winds will be North-easterly or inconstant in direction and will strike at 20-25 KMPH.

Besides, the marine areas surrounding the island are expected to tone down although strong gusts of wind and turbulent waters are foreseen during thunderstorms transiently.
