An officer attached to the Wildlife Department was killed In an attack by an elephant in the Galenbindunuwewa area today, Police said.
He was attacked during an attempt to drive away elephants who had broken into a village.
The officer was attached to the Ritigala Wildlife office and a resident of Matale.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
