A woman has been arrested while trying to take a T56 assault rifle into the Havelock City apartment complex in Wellawatta.
Police Media Unit said Wellawatta Police had responded this afternoon to a call made via the 119 emergency hotline by one of the security officers at the apartment complex stating that security officers were holding a woman who had attempted to carry a T56 assault rifle into the complex.
The seized firearm is gold-plated and the woman arrested with the weapon is a 68-year-old resident of the apartment complex. She had been spotted by one of the apartment's security officers while trying to carry the weapon into the complex from her car. Upon further examination, the security officers had found that the weapon was a T56 assault rifle and had detained the woman and the weapon in their custody and informed police.
Wellawatta Police are investigating.
