Two women have been arrested for providing false information to over the 119 emergency hotline.
A call had been made to the 119 hotline on Sunday (18) afternoon claiming that a group of persons were preparing to launch an attack on the Dankotuwa police station using an explosive laden vehicle.
Dankotuwa police launched a special operation to trace those who made the call and found that it had been made by a 25-year-old woman who is a resident of Dankotuwa. She had made the call to the hotline using the phone of her 28-year-old sister, Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ajith Rohana said.
The information provided by the caller was false and both she and her sister were taken into police custody and produced before the Marawila Magistrate's Court. The 25-year-old woman who made the call was remanded in custody till April 28 while her sister was released on bail.
