The Women Parliamentarians' Caucus has submitted their proposals to amend the anti-corruption bill which will be debated today(21).
In a letter to the Speaker on behalf of the Caucus and Sectorial Oversight Committee on Children, Women and Gender, Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle said there are two concerns that need to be immediately amended.
The Caucus requested that the term 'sexual favour' mentioned in the bill diminishes the offence and therefore, instead, the term 'sexual bribery' to be substituted.
"It ensures that the gravity of the offence is reflected in the law," the letter said.
They also requested to include an exception in the case of sexual bribery only, where the giver/offeror of the bribe is not considered the guilty party.
The letter pointed that the Section 162 sub section (f) of the bill states that both the giver and taker of any bribe are guilty.
