The Vice Squad of Colombo North Division has arrested a 25-year-old woman from Modera with 1.21 kilograms with a street value of about Rs 10 million.
The suspect is to be produced before a magistrate where police hope to obtain a seven-day detention order against her under provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance for further investigations, Police Spokesman Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana stated.
The same unit has also arrested 59-year-old female suspect with 14 grams of heroin from Grandpass. Police have also recovered a sum of Rs 291, 200 believed to have been earned by selling heroin from the possession of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the Mattakkuliya Police have arrested a 31-year-old male from Mattakkuliya with 20 grams of heroin while a 24-year-old male has been arrested from Dematagoda by the Colombo Crime Division with 4.60kg of Ganja. Police have also recovered cash amounting to nearly Rs 5.5 million from the suspect's possession, the police spokesman added.
Police are continuing anti-narcotics operations and members of the public who may have information regarding drug trafficking can provide such information to police via the 1997 hotline, SDIG Rohana stated.
