The Sixth International Youth Police Officers' Conference was held at the Special Task Force Katukurunda Training Camp on September 4, with thirty police officers under 35 taking part in the event from 17 countries.
Held for the first time in Sri Lanka, the event, under the theme “Against Modern Terrorism”, was conducted under the guidance of Inspector General of Police, C. D. Wickramaratne and organised by the Sri Lanka branch of the International Police Union.
The conference began under the chairmanship of Professor Demetris Demetriu, Chairman of the Professional Commission of the International Police Union and President of the Cyprus Branch of the International Police Union.
Acting President and High Commissioner of the International Police Union Sri Lanka Branch, Ashoka Wijethilaka, Retired Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, D. A. Fonseka and Senior Superintendent of Police, Vaidya Basnayake participated in the event.
Special Task Force commanding officer and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Varuna Jayasundara and Galle Deputy Inspector General of Police, K.N.A. Wedasinghe also participated in the event.
Other participants included the Special Task Force Director and Senior Superintendent of Police, Atula Ratnayake, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Wimalaratne and International Police Union Assistant, General Secretary and Female Police Inspector, Sunethra Seneviratne.
