A total of 1,182 additional drug suspects have been taken into custody within a 24-hour period that concluded at 12:30 a.m. today (3) during the island-wide anti-narcotic operation ‘Yukthiya’ in progress by police and security forces.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Public Security has issued detention orders for 44 suspects for further interrogations, while 47 are being sent to rehabilitation centers.
Among the most recent arrestees are 138 people who were on the Island Re-convicted Criminals list.
Besides, the anti-drug operation seized 287g of heroin, 246g of methamphetamine (Ice), 5.4kg of cannabis, 119 narcotic pills, and 19,052 cannabis plants.
Meanwhile, the public can now report information on the ongoing anti-drug operation by calling the hot-line launched by Sri Lanka Police on Tuesday (2) under the directive of the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.
The public can dial the Police Headquarters on 071 859 8800 if they have any information regarding drug-related offenders or criminal activity.
