The academic activities of Jaffna University recommenced today after a delegation of university community was given assurances of by the government, student union leaders said.
Vice Chancellor, student union leaders and faculty heads met President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday urging speedy trial and compensation for the families of two students who were killed in an accident involving police shooting.
Earlier students announced an indefinite strike of boycotting classes since end of September crippling the academic activities of university demanding justice for the deaths of two students.
Two Jaffna University students attached to Arts Faculty were killed in a police shoot out on September 21 when they were riding on a motorbike in Kokuvil, Jaffna. Five police officials were remanded over the incident.
