With accepting nominations for the upcoming General Election begins today at District Secretariats across the island, Jana Setha Peramuna (JSP) filed nomination papers today to contest in Jaffna electorate. This would be the first nomination papers submitted by a party to contest in the region.
Ven Seelarathana Thero of the JSP handed in relevant documents to the officials at the Jaffna District Secretariat today. The political parties and independent groups can file nomination papers till March 19, according to the National Election Commission. Special security measures have been put in place in respective District Secretariats ahead of the nomination period.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
