All Ceylon Jamiathul Ulama (ACJU) President Rizwie Mufti has called on the public to refrain from viewing the entire Muslim community as terrorists or extremists due to the actions of a few individuals.
"We have always proven through our actions and words that we (Muslims) are also against terrorim," the ACJU leader said in a news conference which was attended by Muslim Ministers and representatives of other Islamic bodies.
Mr. Mufti also lamented that it was unfortunate to witness the Muslim community at large being harassed and targeted due to the actions of a few individuals in the name of Islam.
While requesting all media institutions to be more responsible and considerate when reporting incidents since it is vital to bring together all communities during these difficult times, the ACJU leader emphasised that the organisation was willing to clarify misconceptions concerning Madrasas and other related religious aspects.
On the same lines he noted that it is unfortunate to witness some Parliamentarians and other individuals too expressing negative remarks on such matters.
Further he called on the media to provide sufficient coverage to clarify such matters. "Unless, we fear that it will lead to further division, suspicion and fear among masses,", the ACJU leader cautioned.
