The acting OIC of the Kopai Police who was arrested over the assault of a journalist in Kopai, Jaffna has been relased on a surety bail of Rs 50,000.
The OIC identified by the name of E.J. Gunaratne was released after he was produced before the Jaffna Magistrates Court today (Feb 21).
The scuffle between the OIC and the journalist had taken place on January 19, when the latter had arrived at the scene of a fire.
An argument had broken out between the journalist and the police officer who was conducting investigations at the location. This had subsequently led to the journalist being attacked, Police said.
