Former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Lal Kantha would face disciplinary action if he is found guilty of breaching the party's code of conduct, JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake said yesterday (Mar 3).
Addressing a press conference, MP Ratnayake said that relevant action would be taken against the JVP politburo member no sooner that he is released on bail.
"The JVP has not intervened in this issue. Lal Kantha has been remanded for 14 days following a court decision. Therefore, the party would conduct an inquiry into the incident and also to determine whether he was under the influence of liquor" he added.
The JVP parliamentarian further pointed out that the party had already banned smoking and drinking of liquor.
