Strong winds that hit 10 districts during the past twelve hours have damaged 483 houses, Director of Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Pradeep Kodippili said.
Accordingly Kurunegala, Rathnapura, Colombo, Galle, Matara, Hambantota , Nuwara Eliya and Kalutara were affected by the winds.
“Five minor injuries were reported, and immediate action would be taken to provide relief to the affected people,” he added.
According to the Department of Meteorology, windy and showery conditions over the south-western parts of the island is expected to enhance to some extent during the day.
Meanwhile showers will occur at times in Sabaragamuwa, Western, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
Heavy rainfalls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts.
The Met Department added that coastal inundation is likely along the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle due to the effect of swell waves. People who are living in coastal areas are requested to be alert in this regard.
A disruption of train services on the Kelani valley and Puttalam line was caused due to fallen trees onto the railway track .
The Railway Control Room stated that the repair work of the railway line has already commenced.
According to the Railway Control Room, train travel on the Kelani valley line will be rerouted by evening.
