The Attorney General (AG) has instructed the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take disciplinary action against nine senior police officials including three DIG's over the Easter Sunday attacks.
AG Dappula de Livera had issued these instructions after considering a recommendation made by the Special Investigation Committee appointed to probe the Easter Sunday attacks.
The Committee had recommended criminal and disciplinary action against these officials subsequent to an investigation for failing to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist bombings.
These senior police officials include the DIG's of the Colombo, North Western and the Special Protection Range, Meegamuwa Senior Superintendent, Colombo North Superintendent, the third and fourth Assistant Superintendent's in Meegamuwa, and the Katana and Jampettah Street Officers-in-Charge (OIC).
According to the co-ordinating officer of the AG, copies of the letter sent to Acting Police Chief C.D Wickramaratne have been copied to the President's Secretary and the Chairman of the Police Commission.
