AG to counter object Gotabhaya's petition in museum case

The submission of counter objections to the revision petition filed in the D A  Rajapaksa memorial museum case has been fixed for June 10 by the Appeal Court.

During a court hearing yesterday (Jun 7), President's Counsel Romesh de Silva commenced submissions on behalf of his client - former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. 

Accordingly, court instructed Deputy Solicitor General appearing for the Attorney General to file counter objections against the defendant's arguments during the next hearing on June 10.

Mr. Rajapaksa had filed a revision petition seking an interim order on the Special High Court's verdict to reject his preliminary objections on the jurisdiction of the Special High Court to hear the case.

The petition is being heard before the Appeal Court judge bench of Justices Achala Wengappuli and Arjuna Obeysekera.

The former Defence Secretary has been accused of mispapropriating state funds worth Rs 33.9 million in the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial museum.
