A tri-party agreement has been signed to resolve the waste collection issue which had arisen recently in Colombo, Western Development and Megapolis Ministry Secretary Nihal Rupasinghe said.
The agreement had been signed between the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), the Kerawalapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha and a private garabage collection company yesterday (Aug 7).
Accordingly, the CMC and the private company will be able to dump garbage at the Kerawalapitiya garbage dump until March provided that Rs 2.5 million is paid monthly to the pradeshiya sabha in the area.
Further, a 24-member committee comprising the Chairman of the Kerawalapitya Pradeshiya Sabha has also been appointed to resolve any issues regarding this matter, the ministry secretary said.
Residents had complained in delays of collecting garbage after the dumping of waste in Kerawalapitiya had been stopped by the government this week as it had exceeded its capacity.
