The agreement to form the Democratic National Front (DNF) alliance was signed at the Taj Samudra hotel in Colombo a short while ago.
A total of 28 political parties and 30 civic groups signed the agreement to form the alliance.
Among the key parties which joined the alliance are the United National Party, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Democratic National Movement, Jathika Hela Urumaya, National Unity Front, and the Nava Sama Samaja Party.
The Api Sri Lanka movement led by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga also signed the agreement.
The DNF alliance will back New Democratic Front presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa at the upcoming election.
