The Air Force today handed over 42 acres of land in the village of Keppapulavu in Mullaithivu to the District Secretariat as more than 54 families claimed ownership for those lands.
Air Force Spokesperson Group Captain Chandima Alwis told the Times Online that according to the instruction given to the Forces, the land has been officially handed over to Mullaithivu District Secretariat Roobawathy Ketheeswaran and the due process of returning their lands would be carried out by the Secretariat.
For more than a month, families of Pilavukkudiyiruppu in Keppapulavu were on continuous project in front of the air force camp demanding to return their lands which were acquired by the forces after the war came to end.
Meanwhile nine families claimed that their lands are still in the custody of forces and yet to be released. “People can make any claims, if they can prove the ownership of those lands we will consider that in future,” Group Captain Alwis said.
