Air pollution levels in Colombo skyrocketed to 163, according to the Air Quality Index, this morning with the dawn of the New Year, posing health dangers to the public.
The National Building Research Organisation yesterday (Dec 31) urged the public to minimize the lighting of firecrackers to welcome the New year, due to the pollution of air.
NBRO Senior Scientist Sarath Premasiri said that the quality of the air is likely to improve after 10 am today.
