The All Island Transport Workers Union (AITWU) has written to the President seeking a Rs 10,000 festival allowance for Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) employees in lieu of the Avurudu season.
The letter to President Maithripala Sirisena notes that SLTB employees had previously received only Rs 5000 as a festival allowance.
However, the Union claims that the employees of the Railway Department which also fall under the purview of the Transport Ministry, receive a festival allowance of Rs 10,000 per year.
Accordingly, the AITWU called on President Sirisena to grant a festival allowance of Rs 10,000 to SLTB employees as well.
