All 225 MPs should accept responsibility - MP Kumara Welgama

News

UPFA MP Kumara Welgama said that all 225 MPs in Parliament should take full responsibility for mistakes that led to intelligence warnings of Easter Sunday attacks not being taken seriously.

Speaking during the debate on emergency regulations, MP Welgama said it was wrong to point fingers at each other after such a tragedy, pointing out it would not help the country move forward from its current plight.

Mr Welgama noted that the intelligence agencies had sent out the warning to police and that the warning had in turn been conveyed to Personal Security Officers of all MPs. "So, they knew. There is no point now in engaging in a blame game and doing politics with such a national tragedy. All 225 MPs should accept responsibility. We come here and we fight each other. We only think about ourselves and not about the country."

He appealed to Government and Opposition MPs and their supporters to forget their political differences to eliminate this threat to the country's security and rebuild the nation.
