The Government has banned all mass gatherings for a period of two weeks in order to minimise the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi announced the restrictions at a media briefing held earlier this evening.
She noted the ban would apply to events such as musical shows and even large scale political meetings, adding that police have been given instructions not to allow permission for such events. Smaller political gatherings however, can still go ahead.
The minister reiterated that the Government was confident that the parliamentary election scheduled for April 25 can still go ahead.
