All railway employees have been instructed to report to work as their leaves have been cancelled after railways was declared an essential service, Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando said.
Mr. Fernando said any railway employee who does not report to work will be considered to have vacated their posts.
The Presidential Secretariat issued a gazette last night declaring Railways as an essential service, in the backdrop of an ongoing indefinite strike action by employees.
The law states that any attempt to disrupt an essential service will be considered as an offence.
