State Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage today claimed that former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake had been involved in a conspiracy to assassinate him.
Raising a question of privilege in Parliament, Mr Aluthgamage noted that an audio clip allegedly of a phone conversation that took place between former Premier Wickremesinghe and Mr Ramanayake when the latter was a deputy minister was currently circulating on social media. The State Minister said the clip had Mr Ramanayake speaking to the Mr Wickremesinghe about shooting him and then PM Wickremesinghe apparently giving his approval to the plot.
Mr Aluthgamage claimed that in the recording, Mr Wickremesinghe is heard advising Mr Ramanayake to tell police that he had shot him (Aluthgamage) by mistake while accidentally practicing shooting.
“What is the meaning of this Mr Speaker? We have spoken up against the bond scam in Parliament and also against various acts of corruption. Are we to be killed for that? The most serious aspect of this is not that Ranjan Ramanayake is talking about assassinating me, but that the PM is also engaged in the plot to kill me,” he remarked.
He charged that all MP who were part of the former Government’s Cabinet should take responsibility for this as they knew what was happening.
Mr Aluthgamage, added that he intended to file a police complaint tomorrow (8) over the matter.
