Amaradeva's mortal remains placed at Independence Square
The mortal remains of veteran musician and singer Pandit WD Amaradeva, who passed away yesterday, was placed at the Independence Square this morning to enable the public to pay their last respects. The remains will lie at Independence Square till 3.30pm tomorrow, after which the final rites will take place.
President Maithripala Sirisena was among those who were present this morning when the remains were brought to Independence Square. Many politicians, artistes and members of the public were also present.
Meanwhile, all liquor shops, cinemas and meat stalls within the Colombo Municipal Council limits will be closed tomorrow (5) in view of the Pandit Amaradeva's funeral.
