Anti-SAITM protest: Eight students remanded

Eight university students including a Buddhist monk who had been arrested by police for allegedly engaging in unlawful behavior at yesterday's student protest were remanded till tomorrow after being produced in courts this morning. 

The students were arrested following clashes between police and university students during yesterday's protest against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) in Malabe.

The protest was organized by the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF), the Inter University Bhikkhu Federation (IUBF) and the Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee. 

Police accused the students of engaging in a protest in violation of a court order.
